What is California Newsreel?California Newsreel, the distributor of Money-Driven Medicine, is the oldest non-profit, tax-exempt media resource center in the United States. Founded in 1968, it has provided film and video to support social change movements for over four decades – the Civil Rights and Anti-War movements of the ‘60s, the Anti-Apartheid struggle and “Cultural Wars” of the ‘80s and ‘90s, and the healthcare reform debates of today. A thread running through all Newsreel’s work has been the belief that film and video should not just inform; but should also be used as tools for social dialogue and engagement. We want our films to be skillfully integrated into the day-to-day work of teachers, civic leaders, community activists and concerned citizens. To that end, California Newsreel places its films in a content-rich, on-line context where insights can translate directly into further study and civic involvement. Hence, this web-site provides a range of resources designed to help you make your screening of Money-Driven Medicine more effective. Read more of Newsreel’s thoughts on “user-centered media”.
